Autism Central Success!
We had a terrific day at Autism Central on Tuesday in Birmingham where we made some really great connections with both parents and professionals alike. There was so much buzz at the event, with lots of information stands from local and national providers, workshops ongoing throughout the day which gave some really great insight and perspective into some controversial topics, and also with the NAS conference running alongside it the whole day was full of people looking to gather as much information as possible. We met parents who had travelled from outside the West Midlands area to be there, one coming all the way from Wimbledon London! I am sure they were not disappointed by the array of information on offer on the day.
If you were able to catch my workshop on transition into adult services I hope you found it particularly useful in your own personal circumstances. After giving my presentation I always feel an overwhelming sense of humility that I have been able to give my personal experiences, thoughts and advice onto others who need that encouragement for the battles to come. Transition can be a tough process, so by sharing information and hearing from others who have managed to fight the system, this should empower you and give you that confidence to realise that, like us, you can get what you need for your child. I always try to stress, you are not in it alone! You will go through every emotion possible during the transition process and the best thing you can do is to find solace with others who are going or have been through the same process in order to support each other. Ann and myself are also available should you ever wish to talk through your situation; we will advise any way we can to help you.
Alternatively if you are a part of a parent support group which holds regular meetings and you feel it may be beneficial for my wife and I to come along, share our experiences with your whole group, or if you would like me to give my presentation on transition at a meeting we would be more than happy to do so.
