A “myth-busting” guide challenging negative attitudes to children with disabilities has been launched on Mumsnet, an online parenting network, to support parents of children with additional needs. This is all part of a campaign called “This is My Child” which acts against  any misunderstanding of children with special needs or misjudgement of their parents and includes tips on how to make life a little bit easier for people with disabilities and their families. The guide tackles attitudes which suggest that parents who receive disability-related payments for a child are benefit scroungers and challenges the use of derogatory descriptions of mentally and physically disabled people.
